Zoo & Tropical Education Center - BELIZE, Day Trip

Started in 1983, when Sharon Matola adopted 17 animals left behind by a film crew; the zoo moved to its current quarters on Mile 29 of the Western Highway in 1991. Today there are 150 birds, mammals, and reptiles, all species indigenous to Belize. This is the only zoo in the entire country of Belize and is an excellent opportunity for travelers to get memorable photos of the jaguar, tapir, scarlet macaw and jabiru stork. Mesh and wood enclosures resemble the animals' natural habitat. A special attraction is watching the morning feeding. This is an excellent adventure for children and those interested in seeing as many species who reside in Central America of animals in a limited amount of time.
